Blalock Reporting Services

Very briefly...

Sixteen years in business without a website is really too long -- so here it is, and it's a brave new world! I'm so happy to be working in my home state, mingling with those other native Tarheels who I know and understand so well.

From Then to Now...

Way back in the 1940s a shorthand reporter named Horace Webb became frustrated with his style of reporting proceedings - a very long and arduous process. He says he was struck with the thought, "Since the reporter repeats the entire proceeding with his voice when he dictates his shorthand notes, why not dictate them in the courtroom? Repeat each word into a microphone just as it is spoken! Repeat it with my voice instead of with a pen." And the idea was born, what became known as the Stenomask!

Early attempts at creating this contraption included a cigar box, a number two tomato can, and a "Royal Chief" coffee pot without a spout. And in the 1950s, the polished and professional-looking Stenomask became one of the most favored verbatim reporting systems available.

Back Home Again...

Back in 1992 I returned to my home state and joined my mom, Edrie Strader, and my sister, Jamie Sutton, in their voicewriting reporting business, and I've never looked back! It's a frustrating, nerve-wracking, hectic way to spend a day at work - but the challenges it brings are welcomed and exciting!

Please remember me when you need a very competent and experienced verbatim reporter from Robbinsville to Morganton. Call or email me here in Asheville and let's talk about it!
