About Us

Jennifer S. Blalock, CVR

Jennifer was born in Reidsville, North Carolina. After several city changes she and her family ended up in East Asheville in 1967. Jennifer attended Bell Elementary School and Reynolds High School; the family moved to Mauldin, South Carolina for a year, then returned to live in the Leicester community where she graduated from Erwin High School in 1979.

During college at UNCA Jennifer met and married Scott Blalock from Wilmington. Upon her graduation with a B.A. degree in mass communications and broadcasting the couple moved Down East where Jennifer began work at WCTI-TV 12 in New Bern as a news videographer. Her beat covered several counties along the coast including Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville. During these few years she also worked in news at WLAS-WXQR and for the Jacksonville Daily News. Scott's job with Domino's Pizza then moved the couple, and their eventual two children, to Fayetteville, NC, then Mobile, Alabama, and New Albany, Indiana over the next few years, and in 1992 the family returned to Asheville where they belong.

Currently Jennifer is a certified verbatim reporter, member of the National Verbatim Reporters Association, president of the NC Verbatim Reporters Association, an experienced Girl Scout leader trainer, a recreational knitter and reader, and an avid golfer. Her next goal is to achieve the Certificate of Merit in verbatim reporting with NVRA.

Edrie Strader

Edrie was born in Ruffin, North Carolina, and has been married to Aubrey Strader for 50 years. After many different jobs during her life she began working for Deborah Garrison at Depositions and... in 1981. After a few years of training under her belt she went out on her own. In the late 1980s and 1990s she trained her two daughters Jennifer and Jamie in the art of court reporting with the voice writing method. In fact, in the mid 1980s Jamie completed her associates degree in steno reporting from Lenoir Community College; however, once she tried voice writing in tutelage with Edrie, she never went back!

Edrie still reports as often as she can fit it into her busy schedule of golf and family activities. Jamie left for mission work in Sydney, Australia, in the 1990s with her husband and three children.

Other Life!

All work and play is not fun! Below is a photo of Edrie, me, and my sister Valerie when we flew to London in 2005. Also pictured is Jamie and her family (summertime!) in Australia. Last is a photo from my Montana guest ranch experience this summer. I love cutting yearlings!
